Bro's Opener9/8/2013 There's nothing like the excitement of emptying your quiver on opening morning of archery season. Yesterday's opener was one of those mornings for me. I passed on a young buck that strolled past my stand at first light. A few minutes later I had a coyote pop out in the open behind me. I shot him for 40 yards but he was more like 30. My arrow zipped right over the top of his back. Moments later a red fox cruised down the trail behind my stand. I squeaked him to stop and shot him at 15 yards. I flung a second arrow at him as he rolled around trying to get into the thicket. I was tying my bow on the string to lower and climb down to go look for my fox when a doe popped out right in front of my stand. I bleated to stop her and sent an arrow on the way. The shot was perfect and she scrambled just 40 yards before the crash. It was a great morning and a great way to break in the Mathews Monster Chill.
