Sportsmen's Banquet Olney, IL1/25/2015 I kicked things off last night with seminar season in Olney, IL as several churches in the area came together for a great outreach event. There were 250+ at this years event. These guys are some serious deer hunters and had lots of great bucks on display. One of which was Eric Weber that just wrapped up his best season yet with two bucks...one a 155 incher and the other checking in at 198". Incredible buck!
First Fox for Bro.1/23/2015 I had a buddy give me the inside scoop on a big red fox that had been hanging out around his old barns. I went in and made a predator set along an old road that led in and out of the area around the barns. As I pulled up to the set the next morning I about flipped out when I saw a fox dancing around at the trap. I had a caught my first fox! Crazy thing is, it was a grey fox. Not the big red my buddy had seen. It was a really cool way to kick off my first week of trapping. I've reset the trap and am now waiting on Big Red.
Coyote Double.1/23/2015 Here's a couple coyotes I popped while running traps for Jake. They were set up on a new location several weeks before and finally struck a double. It was male/female pair that came through the gap and couldn't resist. They were trapped in sets 50 yards apart. Pretty cool stuff!
First Week Of Trapping.1/19/2015 Week one of my trapping career is in the books! It's been a great week of daily runs to the trapline with lots of anticipation on what might be waiting at the end of the line. A big thanks to my buddy, Jake, for taking the time to teach me the basics on getting started trapping coons and predators. It's been a lot of fun! I'd say I'm hooked!
Becoming a Trapper.1/15/2015 I made up my mind to finally dive in and learn the skill of trapping in 2015. I've had some traps that my dad gave me years ago and have never put them to use. I've honestly wanted to learn to trap critters since I was a little boy. I just never had the opportunity or proper guidance from someone that could teach me. However, one of my buddies from church, Jake, has been trapping for a few years and let me tag along on his sets. I rode along with Jake as he checked traps for coyotes and coons and even set out a few new sets. I saw real quickly the trapping game could be pretty addicting. I ordered some gear to get me started and set out my first coon traps. On the first morning of running traps I walked up on my first coon in the trap. I was officially a trapper! I honestly need another outdoor addiction like I need a hole in my head! But this is one of the good ones that I can't let slide and will be lots of fun my kiddos as well.
