Double Up With Friends.11/28/2014 It's always fun to hit the woods with good friends in pursuit of big bucks...or does. I recently had the chance to tag-team with my buddy, Luke, here in West Tennessee. He shot a pretty 10-pointer and I stuck a big fatty when she walked in front of my stand, 5 minutes after I climbed up. Good times!

Avery's Buck.11/27/2014 Avery continues to show her little brothers how it's done in the whitetail woods. Not to be outdone by her little brother shooting a doe earlier in the year, she climbed into a box blind and shot a young buck shortly after daylight.
Way to go Avery! Giving Thanks.11/27/2014 Thankful for critters to chase, family, friends, and a Savior that took my place. Happy Thanksgiving!
In Pursuit...Hating Our Hate.11/21/2014 Day 71 of the In Pursuit book...(Must read devo for outdoorsmen) Hating Our Hate Fighting VS. Forgiving. It was a pretty simple choice as a child. Your natural instinct was to hurt the ones that hurt you first. Don't get mad...just get even, right? And as much as we'd like to say we grew out of that stage of life, it honestly seems to carry over into adulthood for many of us. It lingers deep within us to choose a fight over forgiveness. How would we react if we were in Rick Garmon's shoes? I like to think I would have a good, godly, Christian response. But honestly, I would probably be trying to make a deal with God along the lines of, "Lord, I won't kill him...just let me give him a beat down that'll make him wish he was dead." I would want revenge! I would want someone to suffer for the pain inflicted on the ones I love. And hopefully at that moment I would remember that someone has already paid for that pain. Someone has already suffered for the sin and poor choice that hurt me or my family. It's Jesus. He's got it. Just let it go and let Him have it. bro Follow the In Pursuit Challenge journey on Facebook. Bro's Mathews NO CAM HTR11/14/2014 I got my new Mathews NO CAM HTR bow in yesterday afternoon and made a mad dash to get it dialed in before dark to use on today's hunt. I was honestly a little skeptical of this new design concept, but after the first shots, all doubt was gone. Mathews has done it once again! As Matt McPherson says, "You just gotta shoot it to believe it."
It's very smooth, quiet, and incredibly accurate...even for a jumpy shooter like myself. Check it out at Mathews.com. Two Are Better Than One.11/10/2014 The Bible says, "Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed."
And that's pretty cool, especially when it comes to success in the whitetail woods. A big congrats to Mike & Corrine Bundy on a couple great bucks they recently killed with their Mathews bows. Check out all the latest from Mathews at Mathewsinc.com Zeke's Buck11/6/2014 A big congrats to my bowhunting brother, Zeke Pipher, on his great Nebraska buck he killed this week. Be sure to check out Zeke's book, In Pursuit, at his website www.zekepipher.com.
Parker's Yote10/28/2014 The deer played hardball this past weekend for Parker Dyche on the TN Youth Deer hunt, so when a coyote popped out in the field, Parker didn't waste any time setting up for the shot. Parker was hunting with a muzzleloader and dropped the hammer on this coyote at 135 yards! Well done, Parker!
Bo Baker's Deer10/28/2014 A big congrats to Bo Baker and his dad, Barry, on their TN Youth Hunt success this past weekend. Bo and Barry were set up in a Double Bull blind on the edge of a food plot when deer began to show up. Bo made a great shot and the deer nearly crashed dead in their lap. Way to go, Bo!
TN Youth Deer Hunt - First Blood For Aidan10/27/2014 My little boy, Aidan, has been tagging along on hunts with me since he was 3-years old. He has videoed a number of bow kills for me in Montana where he was to young to hunt. When we moved back to Tennessee (a state that allows little kids to hunt) he was thrilled at the thought of finally being able to hunt for the first time. We had some close calls last year but it never happened. I've been encouraging him with the fact that this year would be the Year of the Deer for him. It's been a long time coming, but this past weekend it happened! On the TN Youth Deer Hunt Aidan killed his first deer! After a slow morning in the blind, we had two does step out in the field in the last 45 minutes of daylight. We had set up the Primos Shack Attack blind on the edge of a freshly mowed field. The deer had no idea we were in the world. Aidan made a great shot, and the deer ran just 40 yards before crashing in the woods. When we found the deer in the woods the party began! I grabbed Aidan in a huge bear hug, and we danced around in celebration. I slapped his back and squeezed him tight in proud excitement. I honestly don't know who was more excited.
What makes the hunt even sweeter is the fact that Aidan killed the deer in the same field I killed my first deer with a bow back in high school. It was a very special hunt in many ways. Way to go Aidan! BlogArchives
